MILAN (AP) — A Newcastle fan is reportedly in stable condition in hospital after being stabbed in Milan ahead of a Champions League match in the Italian city.Italian media reports that a 58-year-old man was stabbed three times — once in the back and twice in the arm.The incident happened in the popular, bar-strewn area of Milan called Navigli, shortly after midnight (2200 GMT) on Monday.It is not known whether it occurred during a clash between rival soccer fans or was a separate incident.AC Milan hosts Newcastle later Tuesday in their Champions League opener.___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerSource

NEW YORK (AP) — Poet Afaa Michael Weaver has won the Wallace Stevens Award, a lifetime achievement honor presented by the Academy of American Poets. Weaver, whose books include “Spirit Boxing,” “A Fire in the Hills” and “City of Eternal Spring,” will receive $100,000. (CNN) — A band director was tased and arrested after he disregarded police requests to stop his band’s performance following a high school football game, according to a Birmingham Police Department spokesperson.The incident happened Thursday following a win by Minor High School at PD Jackson-Olin High School in Birmingham, said police. A crash in Pembroke Pines has blocked off a street and caused a power outage in the area on Tuesday morning. The incident happened at 13600 Pines Boulevard after a car, traveling eastbound, somehow went airborne and hit a heavy-duty power pole. Power lines that were destroyed as a result of the crash caused a power outage in the area.It is unclear if anyone was injured.
